Lunch in Kyoto

I did want to mention the lunch we had in Kyoto.

We were bumbling about the city, looking for an interesting place to eat. There are A LOT of places to eat in Kyoto. Doreen generally has a good idea of where we should stop, as she does a lot of research on the Chow Hounds sites. (Better than Yelp or Zagat's in our opinion) But sometimes you just wander until you see something interesting.

What we saw was this:

It looked pretty good (what could go wrong with cooking rice, chicken, herbs, spices, and a raw egg in a boiling hot stone bowl?

We walked in and sat down, and found one of the few places where we had company at the counter. (In many other cases, we had been the only people eating)

Almost everyone ordered the same thing. Stone bowl chicken and rice with eggs.

IT comes to the table looking like this:

and then the server, a young woman, roughs it all up with utensils. While she does this, she talks and talks. However, she did not talk to us. We wouldn't have understood her anyway, but I would have liked to have heard the story.

After she mixes all that stuff into the rice, the add one more egg for good measure:

It was really quite delicious.

Honestly, it was sort of like jambalaya!

Here is the name of the place, in case you are ever in Kyoto. I would recommend it.
